Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday tried to clear the confusion over delimitation and said that it is a separate issue from population management and should not be linked to ongoing political discussions. Speaking to the media, Naidu said, delimitation is a continuous process, which happens once in 25 years.
Referring to population growth, Chandrababu Naidu said, "I now support population growth, southern states are facing the problem of old age. This problem is not only in UP and Bihar. I used to support family planning earlier, but now I support population growth. Give incentives for more children."
Mentioning the global problem,
Naidu also drew attention to the global ageing crisis and pointed to population challenges in countries like Japan, China, and some European countries. Chandrababu Naidu said, "The population in Japan is minus 8 percent. This is a critical issue for human survival. The problem of ageing has started in South India. In North India, only two states - Bihar and Uttar Pradesh - are benefiting. We were thinking that population growth is harmful, but now it seems that it has benefits."
CM Naidu said, "I also used to advocate family planning as a challenge. Now, I am changing my views and support population growth." Suggesting a new approach to resource allocation, the Chief Minister said, wealth creation and population often clash. He proposed that the Government of India or the Finance Commission should promote population. Vaartha e-paper
